Painting New Zealand

The artworks of Rebecca Osborne (whether they are her New Zealand paintings or pastel pictures) are above all else reflections of her deep and abiding love for this land.

Rebecca's paintings of New Zealand nature capture those small details that we often overlook in our busy lives. Including that inexpressible sense of presence inherent in every living thing - that we often only notice when we are still.

In contrast, Rebecca's landscape paintings illustrate her passion for art deco and art nouveau styles. In these paintings the New Zealand landscape is fused with the angular geometric shapes of art deco poster images and her art nouveau stylized interlacing vine and koru weave of the border work.

Rebecca has incorporated this style into a growing body of New Zealand paintings based on Maori culture. In particular the style and textures of Maori clothing, art and design, and the way they were fashioned from and embody the environment around us.

Rebecca Osborne's paintings, their style and attention to detail, are a celebration of New Zealand. From the wonder of life's often overlooked little details, to the powerful geometry of its landscapes. The fusion of art deco and art nouveau styles with New Zealand themes is a representation of the nobility and grace of New Zealand - the land and it's people.
